Beschreibung |
Thema In this workshop, we will read, discuss, and develop lesson plans around the works of contemporary Nigerian literary artists. These writers – including Wole Talabi, Logan February, and Oyinkan Braithwaite – have produced literature of exceptional emotive power and intellectual acuity, yet they remain rarely read in Swiss high school English classrooms. Participants will expand their literary horizons by engaging with these texts through the lens of deepened societal maturity (vertiefte Gesellschaftsreife) as stipulated in the Swiss national curriculum. While addressing notions of empathy, tolerance, and mutual understanding in the classroom has always been essential, the current climate in some of our schools, our society, and the world at large lends this work particular urgency. Participants will gain new insights into the contemporary literature of a vibrant African nation, work with salient and classroom-ready literary texts, and receive practical, social justice-oriented teaching materials.
