Beschreibung |
Thema In exploring the human implications of the natural sciences, literature can foster a nuanced understanding of creativity and its role across academic disciplines. This course focuses on literary texts that cover diverse fields of science (e.g. evolutionary theory, cartography, physics). We will examine the ethical questions these texts raise and discuss concerns such as the challenge posed by science to existing world views, the techniques used to translate scientific insights into imaginative works, and the sheer thrill and beauty of scientific discovery. Finally, there will also be time to discuss how interdisciplinary ideas might be implemented at participants’ schools. Inhalte und Ziele – To outline key developments of the relation between literature and science and to define the relevant genre characteristics; – to engage with transversal skills and, after the first day, to design and implement lesson plans in participantsʼ schools; – to receive detailed feedback on the lesson plans, both from the course instructors and from the other participants; – to survey some additional texts suitable for classroom use that expand on core themes from the two-day course. Methoden – Instructors’ input – Pair and group work – Plenary discussions – Feedback on individual lesson plans / project work |
