Teaching in English

Teaching in English supports UZH instructors in dealing with the challenges of teaching in English in a non-English speaking environment. It is designed for non-native English speakers who are currently teaching Bachelor’s and/or Master’s courses or who will be doing so in the future.

The course introduces research findings on factors involved in teaching in English in a non-English speaking environment, including, for example, the role of ELF (English as a lingua franca) and an analysis of factors that might affect the classroom. Participants engage with, and discuss, various issues surrounding Teaching in English, in particular in terms of their own experience and/or expectations. Transfer into participants’ own teaching is supported by micro-teaching sessions in English on topics from participants’ own disciplines, and classroom management practice tasks, followed by self-reflection and peer and instructor feedback.

The program Teaching Skills and the CAS in Higher Education fully approve Teaching in English.

Participants reflect on their use of English in the classroom, prepare for various challenges of an English-speaking classroom, and thus enhance their confidence in teaching in English.

Currently no registration

With their registration, participants agree to attend the entire course. A cancellation after the end of the cancellation period, no-shows without indication of unforeseeable or unavoidable reasons, or incomplete participation can result in consequences for the participation in other courses (detailed information about the terms of participation).
